The next morning we were up bright and early (9am) and had another great breakfast provided by our hosts. After breakfast we had one thing in mind- surfing. We packed up our bags, put on our coolest bathing suit and took off to get our board. We got to the beach, put on our wetsuits and jumped right in the water. We decided to share a board for 6 hours to save a bit of money. I was lucky enough to get the first opportunity. I confidently walked towards the water with my board in hand and strapped up the safety strap before entering the water. It was not long before my confidence was washed away by the two meter high crashing waves. I think I was underwater more then I was above the water. I had a few good attempts at getting up but did not manage to stay on the board for more than one second. As my shoulders began to die, I switched with Katherine and gave her the opportunity to become a famous surfer (like she has always wanted). She suffered the same fate as me- getting destroyed by the waves and managing a one second stand up. We switched a few more time and continued to get abused by the powerful waves. I did manage to stand up and ride a wave in for a good 5-6 seconds and Katherine was able to ride the board on her stomach or on all fours which was enjoyable. Needless to say we need to practice! After surfing we fell asleep at 7pm and woke up only to skype people. Six hours of surfing is very exhausting.
The next day we went for a nice walk along the beach and ended up at another mountain. Luckily this mountain had a shuttle service to the top, so we hopped on the train/gondola and made our way to the top. From there we had a magnificent view of San Sebastián. We took a few pictures and walked around the top of the mountain for about 30 minutes. We then made our way back down the mountain and decided to go looking for some pinxtos in the old town. We found a place that looked busy so we went in and filled our plate with things that looked like food. We are still not sure what we ate but it was good. We of course finished lunch with some gelato and made our way to the beach. This time I did not get a terrible burn! We laid out on the beach for a couple of hours and went for a quick swim (the water was actually warm-ish). After the beach we made our way back home and we made some chicken Alfredo. Around 12:00 and a bottle of wine we decided it would be a good idea to head to the casino. Katherine quickly lost 15 euros and I was stuck at the roulette table for a while. A few times I was down to my last couple of dollars and then I hit big (which only brought me back to even). I left the casino with 23 euros (a three euro profit) which is the only time I have won money at a casino!
Today we are taking the bus to Madrid and then the plane from Madrid to Rotterdam. We will be exploring Holland for the next week or so.
