So, this is how our "new beginning" began. We woke up at 4:30am to catch our bus to Croatia. We walked 40 minutes with our bags and arrived on time. The bus of course left 10 minutes late. This bus in particular did not have reclining seats and if I was four inches taller I would not have fit in the seat. The guy in front of us had to sit sideways (with his legs in the aisle) because there was no room. We made it to the Croatian boarder and waited about 45 minutes for them to check our passports. We then made it to the toll station (about 5 minutes away) and our bus broke down. All the men were ordered off the bus to push it to the side of the road (Katherine wanted to do it too so she got right in there). We were totally stranded at the boarder for four hours. No food, limited water and in the middle of nowhere. Most of the people on the bus were lying on the highway soaking up some sunshine. Luckily we broke down next to the toll booth so we could use their toilet (the bus did not have one). That is what you get for taking the discount bus line. Our fresh start isn't so fresh anymore. We will try again tomorrow.

But these are the times that you will remember and laugh about...Remember when the bus broke down at the Croatian border and everyone had to push it? Ha!Ha!Ha!...It's all part of the adventure. Now if it had been pouring like in Vienna you might not have been able to laugh! Love, Mom XOX

Your mom is right, these are going to be some of the things you remember most... like Grampa remembering the trotro with the door that didn't close and he had to hold it the whole 200km, or me and my friend Jen, when we had to climb out of our bus that was stuck in a mudslide and hike the last couple of km into a town in knee deep mud. The fun stuff all meshes together, the rough stuff is what meshes you two together.... it'll get better... or at least seem better by the time you're clean, fed and had a beer. I love your stories... keep them coming! (and I extra like them with pictures... hahaha)

Amazing! You are now officially seasoned travellers! When I was crossing the border to go from Senegal to The Gambia, it took me 12 hours and 4 separate vehicles to go 120km!!!!! And for some of that trip, I had a goat on my lap!
