We are hoping to head to Florence in the morning but do not currently have any plans. We are hoping to book our trip and a place to stay. Enjoy the photos!
Today we took off on a day trip to Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii. We took the train down to Pompeii where we took a cab to Mount Vesuvious. The cab driver was awesome and explained a lot of things along the way. The volcano erupted in 79 AD and wiped out the local town of Pompeii completely. I always thought it was the lava that killed them. I was wrong (which I don't admit often). Apparently it was the gas and ash that was released that killed them all. Nearby Herculaneum was also decimated, but for them it was the lava that killed them (the lava moves slower so a lot more people survived in Herculaneum). The cab dropped us off at 10000 feet and we had to walk the next 2000 feet to the crater. When we got to the top it was absolutely gorgeous. We took lots of pictures with my camera and my "selfie stick" gopro. When we got to the end of the trail there was a little shop that was selling coffee, wine and souvenirs. Taking Aunt Tinas advice we got a shot of Limoncello. WOW! That was a new experience. This Limoncello is like a lemon flavoured tequila or something. NOT what I was expecting. We both decided to take our lunch out and have a bite to eat to get the taste out of our mouth. Nothing better than a shot of lemon flavoured tequila at 11:00 in the morning! Again we had a gorgeous view as we ate our sandwiches. We hopped back in the cab and he took us back down the hill. Next on the list was Pompeii. This place is pretty amazing! Some of the gladiators that used to fight in the Colosseum would do their training in the Pompeii arena. We downloaded a free voice guided tour that took us around the place and taught us a lot about the history that occurred in the great ancient city of Pompeii. Hopefully we still remember it when we get home! We are hoping to head to Florence in the morning but do not currently have any plans. We are hoping to book our trip and a place to stay. Enjoy the photos!

Great story. Imagine shots at 11am on a weekday! I cannot wait to share this with the students tomorrow. (Kloe thinks your muscles are hurting because they are tired, Katherine. "Just like my brain when I think too much" she said...)

Haha I was concerned at first! But our legs are definitely tired (and I've had a sore brain before too!) so I think Kloe might be on to something!

As you know, the boys are currently obsessed with dinos, and we've been talking about how they became extinct (meteor, volcanos, etc.), so, upon seeing the photos of you two on a REAL volcano, especially one with smoke... he said 'OMG, she's lucky she's still alive!" hahaha ;)
